Carly 2017

My first portrait in oil. There’s a point in doing a portrait when a person seems to just emerge from the medium. If you’re lucky it is the right person; I have a few nice ones that are still in search of their rightful owner. This one came out ok, though my sister says it looks more like me; what’s wrong with that?

Reflections

Allison’s family owns a house on San juan Island in the Puget Sound. This is a view from there. I reckon it’s a sunrise, I think the view is eastward, but I’m not sure as I have become increasingly directionally challenged.

Another dog has his day

This one is a friend’s airedale. I like painting dogs, they are not too hard and everyone loves them. If only all things were like that!

Fowl play

This is another one from the amazing gallery of my friend Ragen Skjaevestad on Instagram (Ragnhildoy). Most of my paintings look better when photographed, but this one looks better in person, the blues are more vivid and realistic. I cry fowl!

What’s the buzz?

I was getting tired of painting birds and looking for nice photos to paint, so I asked for shots from my friends on Facebook. I also looked through pictures taken by my friend Ragen Skjaevestad posted on Instagram. She’s a wonderful photographer, and I found this one in her gallery. I guess one could think of it as a really small bird.

Just plain red

Cardinals are red, right? I saw this photo of Dad’s and liked all the variations in colors. I haven’t had many photo inspirations lately, so I’ve been doing Dad’s birds, but I have some new ideas now thanks to my recent Facebook request to friends. Watch this space for Something Completely Different.

Blackbird?

Grackles are black birds unless you see them in bright sunlight, and then all these colors emerge, like an oil slick on asphalt. This was from another of Dad’s paintings.

You’ve got a friend

I thought this guy would be a nice companion to the three whites. He need some touch up, but I am too impatient to wait to publish him.

More veggie

Squash is pretty tasteless. I wonder if it has any nutritional value? This one needs some touch up.
